Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – 10 bands will be playing at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, including the iconic Misfits, a Brazilian metal band that has played at international events such as the Commonwealth Games, the World Cup, the Asian Games and the Olympics.
“We are thrilled to play a big part in this fantastic Olympics in Rio de Portugal, and we hope to make history,” Misfit guitarist and bassist Rodrigo López said in a statement.
“The Misfittles are very proud to be performing at the Games and we are looking forward to a big time experience.”
The Misfitted is one of the oldest bands in Brazil and has been playing for over 30 years.
Misfitting will play the opening ceremony on August 18.
Rio’s other four major sporting events will be held in the capital of the country, Sao Paulo.
The opening ceremony of the Rio Games will be staged on August 17, with the final scheduled for August 25.
The first event will be the Pan Am Games.
The closing ceremony will be on August 25, with games beginning on August 27.
The games will be televised live on ABC, and the games will feature live music, including a live concert by the Brazilian rock band The Flaming Lips, on August 30.
Rio 2016 opening ceremonies are set to kick off on August 12, with a concert by The Flapping Lips and The Flamethrowers to follow on August 16.
The final Olympic Games will take place on August 26.
“I want to thank all of the athletes, coaches, volunteers and officials that will make this a very special event for Brazil,” López said.
“This is one that will be remembered forever.”
Brazil is expecting more than 4.6 million visitors to the Games, with an average of 12 million visitors per day.
